Antique Aubergine Lacquerware Lidded Bowl

This minimalist lacquered bowl exudes sophistication, with its restrained lines and unadorned simplicity. It is a chic piece; its simple low-slung lines finished in a deep blackish red, or dark Aubergine, contrasts beautifully with its dark red-coloured interior.

To craft traditional lacquerware such as this - hand-carved wood is very finely sanded then brushed with many layers of highest quality lacquer which is buffed and polished at each and every layer. They are lightweight and quite heatproof meaning you can cup them in bare hands when they are filled with food or liquid.

Traditional lacquerware like all artisan goods, is made to last -  and is the reason this piece is still so beautiful and functioning today. Of course all antiques show at least minor imperfections from age but it simply adds to their allure! The zen of imperfection.

The bowl's lid can be used as a shallow footed dish in itself.

We have two of these lidded bowls as you will see from the images. Each, being hand-crafted are very slightly different.

Either separately or as a pair these bowls would look amazing on any table setting  or room interior which adheres to a Japanese minimalist style.
