Antique Lacquer Camellia Bowl

This rich red, antique Japanese lacquerware lidded-bowl featuring painted, real-gold camellias, one of Japan's iconic and favourite flowers, are humming with the energy of the craftsperson who so lovingly made it.

The bowl's lid can be used as a shallow footed dish in itself.

To craft traditional lacquerware such as this - hand-carved wood is very finely hand-sanded then brushed with many layers of highest quality lacquer which is buffed and polished at each and ever layer. They are lightweight and quite heatproof meaning you can cup hot soup in them.

Traditional lacquerware like all artisan goods, is made to last -  and is the reason this piece is still so beautiful and functioning today. Of course all antiques show at least minor imperfections from age but it simply adds to their allure! The zen of imperfection. The gold paint on this lacquerware has grown matte with time but we love the look of it.

Stunning at the table - but equally adding magic to your living space -  a must have for those who love a touch of protective, energising red in their home.

We know you're picturing this on that sideboard of yours... and agree - it would look perfect ! ;)

We have two of these lidded bowls as you will see from the images. Each, being hand-crafted are very slightly different.

These would make a beautiful wedding or anniversary gift if purchased together.
