This vibrant, vintage 'Red Siren' Kimono in textured silk feels as sensational as it looks. The weave's plaid pattern is made with fine black threads and the bold lining is in red and pink silk.
While this traffic stopping number will inevitably attract attention - the bonus element is that red is energising and deflects negativity according to the Japanese - the very best kind of party attire! A true conversation starter!
Of course the 100% silk Aka Keisei would look pretty amazing hung as wall art too.
Externally this kimono is in immaculate condition - there are very minor age spots on inside lining. Superb.
Note - Please Read before purchase:
Kimonos are generally made, for wearing traditionally tied with an Obi sash, on smaller framed, not too tall bodies - however if worn as an open jacket there is generally enough room in the sleeve area and in length to be worn by several sizes larger and taller than originally intended. However there is no guarantee it will sit perfectly on your body shape. Let's call it freestyle!
As we take every measure to ensure you are advised of the correct sizing prior to purchase - we ask you to please be aware that we don't refund for garments chosen in error. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any queries regarding dimensions before purchase.
All vintage and antique kimono and haori were hand made. Therefore you may see some loose, temporary stitches around edges of sleeves, hems and collars on our kimonos. These stitches, called shitsuke ito, are kept in place to assist the valuable kimono in retaining its shape and alignment. In Japan the stitches are normally removed before wearing then restitched again after cleaning and before storage, for the same reasons as above. We like the look of authenticity they bring so feel free to retain them if you like, or remove them before wearing.

This vintage 'Blushing' silk beauty is a teensy bit embarrassed as she has an age spot on her front sleeve. She is a deep dusky pink and off white with broad brushstrokes of faint gold and silver regularly running through the stunning authentic shibori (tie dyed) 100% silk material. The lining is pale pink and cream silk and has some age spotting
She's probably not pristine enough to wear anywhere too fancy but if you love her we'd suggest having her repaired (from the matching internal lining) and wearing over some Jeans and a t-shirt she'll not look too shabby at all! Or remove the sleeves to transform it into a soft, feminine vest.
As there are no spots on the back the Haori it would look great hanging as wall art and of course could be used for making beautiful cushions for your bed or lounge.
Condition - Feels great but showing some age and please see above re spot on sleeve

Translating as 'Autumn's river' this vintage, raw silk, blue-black Kimono with subtle flowing river motifs is covered in gold, rust red and olive green Chrysanthemum - the flower of the season.

Wear as a long jacket, robe or as traditionally intended - crossed over and tied with an Obi or traditional sash.
This striking Kimono also looks spectacular hung on the wall.

This immaculately preserved 'Blue Mountain Flowers' vintage, heavy-silk, Fukuro Obi sash is absolutely breathtaking. This is the first time we've come across anything like it and we simply had to acquire it.
Although the white, silvery grey and pale blues of the winter palate dominate there are echoes of autumn in the maple leaf motifs and and hints forward to spring blossoms making this a versatile seasonal piece for wearing or display. The pattern is only on one side, the underside is plain grey, textured silk.
Excellent Condition - looks new apart from a couple of very minute age speckles
While this stunning garment was made to wear - we highly recommend displaying it. Obi's look equally as wonderful as a table or sideboard runner as they do hung on a wall.

This handsome 'little boxes' Yukata (summer kimono) in dark indigo and white vintage cotton is specifically light weight due to Kyoto's very hot and humid summers - making it an excellent dressing gown or bathrobe in the warmer months.
Taking into account its age, this piece is in very good condition apart from a few small spots of rust coloured stainage on the back of the yukata at the left hand side seam. It's barely noticeable and we think it gives character through its history - let's call it wabi sabi...
Adding to the allure is the the name of the previous owner, hand-stitched in red inside the collar in Japanese characters.
We are so drawn to this geometric pattern, rarely seen in modern day yukata, that if we had a spare wall we know where this baby would end up.

No, not the sacred Japanese mountain.... Fuji is also the word for 'Wisteria' in Japan. This vintage cotton summer kimono features branches of pretty clumping white wisteria flowers swaying in the breeze - screen-printed against the clear, mid-indigo blue sky backdrop. Wisteria blooms in very late spring to early summer in Japan hence their appearance on this lightweight summer kimono or yukata. It is also the symbol of new life.

We named this 100% silk vintage Kimono 'Furutta', meaning different or eccentric, for its truly unusual design. We've never seen another one quite like this.
However the 60's introduced a new trend in Kimono style and colours and this is a great example.
Kimono makers have always had a knack for putting together seemingly disconnected colours and patterns and making them work. The colouring of this almost copper brown background with white, black, ochre and pale khaki looks as though there could have been an African influence - the lining colour is a duo of peach and lemon gelato.
Wear as a long jacket, robe or as intended - wrapped with an Obi or or other traditional sash.
Excellent condition - only very slight age marks on inner lining and watermark on inner sleeve.

This elegant, silk kimono reminds us of the Japanese winter sky (fuyuzora) on a silvery hued day as the snow is about to fall. Small birds are seen here scurrying about in the breeze drawn to glowing red lantern light. At least that's our interpretation and we're sticking to it.
Lined with a warming blood-red and snowy white silk - this vintage piece would make a splendid lightweight winter coat but would look equally as elegant displayed on the wall.
Excellent condition with a few minuscule age spots on inner lining.

Feathery silver trees and temples cover this vintage, black silk Kimono. We can't help but imagine this is the view from a mountainside retreat we regularly visit - high in Kyoto looking over the valley to a remote zen temple on a steep slope accessible only by foot - when you arrive it is completely magical - stay as long as you like and just take it in. If you are the owner of this Kimono you can wrap yourself in this idea - a special kind of personal meditation!
This piece has been immaculately preserved and would make a stunning long evening jacket - if not worn as traditionally intended with an obi. The inside is lined with cream silk.
The look and feel is so ethereal and stunning it would be just as perfect hanging as textile art in your home.
Excellent condition with just a couple of tiny age spots on inner lining and some watermarking inside lapel lining.

This black, vintage silk Haori shows off large 'silver flower' motifs - we believe the subject is the frilled petal Iris which blooms in late spring in Japan when the days are warm and the skies are clear.
Bold spheres cover the cream silk lining. The short tie on the front lapels is a braid of cream and pale blue silk hinting at the sun and the sky. The small hand stitched family crest on the background is in gold thread. Gorgeous.
Perhaps wear as an open jacket over a t-shirt with jeans or a black top and flowing wide leg pants or instantly glam up a simple black dress by tying at the front or leaving open.
Great condition - slight age discolouration on lining .

This striking, textured silk Kimono from Kyoto features black and white shibori (tie dye) with red highlights and is lined in white (acrylic - easier to care for) and plum red silk.
Hamura means leafy foliage - to us the design suggests peeking through leaves at a festival of glowing lanterns or fireworks. It could of course represent the white and pink mochi balls found attached to branches as part of the new year celebration. Whatever way you frame it this kimono says 'party!'. How will you be celebrating in your new kimono?
Perhaps wear as an open jacket over a t-shirt with jeans or a black top and flowing wide leg pants or instantly glam up a simple black dress by tying at the front or leaving open.

'The language of flowers' says it all... or does it. In this case there are a couple of secrets. Although this flowing black crepe-silk, vintage kimono has such large, intricate flowers screen-printed around the base that you can barely take your eyes off them there are hidden messages worth seeking out.
A feature area of gold silk embroidery, on the front left hand side panel (see image 2) adds life and movement to the art work colours, in muted tones of red, green, grey and gold, and the lining is in pale gold silk. But the most delightful part of this story is the lining of the inner lapels - a completely different, slightly more relaxed and exotic floral display for your eyes only - or those you choose to share it with. It is quite exquisite. See the last 2 images to note the change in style.
There are 3 Kamon or family crests across the back, on the top of each sleeve and just under the collar.
Condition
It is in very good condition generally but there are tiny age speckles visible in the lighter coloured parts of the external fabric (images 3 & 4) in the patterning as you can see in the detail images - although hardly noticeable unless you are up very close to the hem of the kimono. There's also a little age spotting and watermarking on the inner lining which is not visible when worn or displayed as art.
Given its age and ornate design, plus the raised gold and silver embroidery in one section this piece would look stunning displayed as a wall hanging.

A winter-weight Haori in hushed tones for those who prefer to slip through the crowd without making a scene. The quiet achiever. This 'Diamond Shapes' vintage silk (possibly wool and silk mix) haori sports indigo and maroonish red details through the diamond shapes on a grey-blue background. We see feet up in front of a crackling fire, a good book and warm sake in the future for this number!
The lining is in cream silk with Chrysanthemum motifs and the braided tassel ties are ice mint green silk - they tuck away nicely if the haori is worn open.
In perfect condition externally, however, there is a fair degree of age spotting on the inner lining which cannot be seen when worn or displayed.

The occasional silver and gold metallic patterning on this black silk vintage haori evokes a sense of 'Fleeting' flowers, gently tumbling away on the breeze reminding us of the Buddhist concept of impermanence and the importance of appreciating the things that come and go. Not holding on. We like the message that accompanies this haori - whether it was intended or not... Ok, so we are dreamers.
The black background has fine ripples over its entirety and the lining is pale gold silk patterned with regal Chrysanthemums. The tassel tie at the front is in silver and pale pink. If not used to tie the coat shut they sit hidden behind the lapels.
Excellent condition.
Note - Please Read before purchase:
Kimono and Haori are generally made, for wearing on smaller framed, not too tall bodies - however if worn as an open jacket there is generally enough room in the sleeve area and in length to be worn by several sizes larger and taller than originally intended.

Ideally you should clean your silk kimono as little as possible to keep it in top condition. Please try to avoid using lotions or oily perfumes when you wear it. Also make sure your hands are clean as sticky or greasy fingers and Kimono don't play well together!
