This vibrant, vintage 'Red Siren' Kimono in textured silk feels as sensational as it looks. The weave's plaid pattern is made with fine black threads and the bold lining is in red and pink silk.
While this traffic stopping number will inevitably attract attention - the bonus element is that red is energising and deflects negativity according to the Japanese - the very best kind of party attire! A true conversation starter!
Of course the 100% silk Aka Keisei would look pretty amazing hung as wall art too.
Externally this kimono is in immaculate condition - there are very minor age spots on inside lining. Superb.
Note - Please Read before purchase:
Kimonos are generally made, for wearing traditionally tied with an Obi sash, on smaller framed, not too tall bodies - however if worn as an open jacket there is generally enough room in the sleeve area and in length to be worn by several sizes larger and taller than originally intended. However there is no guarantee it will sit perfectly on your body shape. Let's call it freestyle!
As we take every measure to ensure you are advised of the correct sizing prior to purchase - we ask you to please be aware that we don't refund for garments chosen in error. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any queries regarding dimensions before purchase.
All vintage and antique kimono and haori were hand made. Therefore you may see some loose, temporary stitches around edges of sleeves, hems and collars on our kimonos. These stitches, called shitsuke ito, are kept in place to assist the valuable kimono in retaining its shape and alignment. In Japan the stitches are normally removed before wearing then restitched again after cleaning and before storage, for the same reasons as above. We like the look of authenticity they bring so feel free to retain them if you like, or remove them before wearing.

We named this 100% silk vintage Kimono 'Furutta', meaning different or eccentric, for its truly unusual design. We've never seen another one quite like this.
However the 60's introduced a new trend in Kimono style and colours and this is a great example.
Kimono makers have always had a knack for putting together seemingly disconnected colours and patterns and making them work. The colouring of this almost copper brown background with white, black, ochre and pale khaki looks as though there could have been an African influence - the lining colour is a duo of peach and lemon gelato.
Wear as a long jacket, robe or as intended - wrapped with an Obi or or other traditional sash.
Excellent condition - only very slight age marks on inner lining and watermark on inner sleeve.

This elegant, silk kimono reminds us of the Japanese winter sky (fuyuzora) on a silvery hued day as the snow is about to fall. Small birds are seen here scurrying about in the breeze drawn to glowing red lantern light. At least that's our interpretation and we're sticking to it.
Lined with a warming blood-red and snowy white silk - this vintage piece would make a splendid lightweight winter coat but would look equally as elegant displayed on the wall.
Excellent condition with a few minuscule age spots on inner lining.

This antique, silk 'Golden Peony' Hanhaba style Obi (1/2 width kimono sash) from the Meiji period (1868–1912) features peonies, chrysanthemum and leaves, pine needles, plum blossoms and clouds - symbolically they cover the late autumn to early winter seasons.
The obi itself is quite demure as was the fashion of time and the colour has become a little muted due to exposure to light and air at various stages throughout the last century or more - as you might expect in an antique piece. Unfortunately we don't know the actual age of this Obi but it was woven sometime in the Meiji era - ageing it somewhere between 100 - 149 years (in 2017).
The base colour is dark gold with lighter gold cloud patterns which catch the light. Many of the shapes are outlined in black and some of the embroidered flowers are a subtle pink.
Condition
Given its antique status this beautiful piece is in very good condition. We highly recommend this obi for display purposes only - in order to preserve its beauty.

This glorious reddish-pink, textured-silk vintage Kimono has a fine plaid pattern with threads of pale silver, black and indigo running through it and is as fun and energetic as the festival (matsuri) it is named after. It is lined in gold and maroon silk.
Condition
While the outside of this kimono is immaculate - there is extensive age spotting covering the gold part of the lining - meaning that it is best worn tied with a sash or hung on the wall as textile art. It might be worth investigating removing or replacing the lining if you wish to wear it as an open jacket.

Sandalwood, cedar, pine, bamboo grass and flowers... The 'Scents of the Forest' vintage Kimono in cinnamon, gold, burgundy and maroon silk is not only incredibly beautiful but also promotes a sense of calm. Wrap yourself in the luxurious 'Mori no Kaori' Kimono and picture yourself sitting on a sunny temple deck in the Kyoto mountains - inhaling sweet and spicy incense and the aromatic oils released from freshly walked over pine needles.
Note the patterns of a flowing river, regal chrysanthemums, daffodils, pine trees, cherry and plum blossoms, maple and more - motifs for all 4 seasons which also make this the perfect piece for displaying year round as wall art too.
The intentionally tiny speckling in the base fabric, in lighter and darker tones, creates the illusion of bronzing which adds to the sense of luxury.
If it's at all possible for a Kimono to emit a positive 'wear me' energy - this garment would be a text book case. We will truly be sad to part with it.
This Kimono is in immaculate condition inside and out.

The shimmering satin finish on this musk pink 'Nene's fans' vintage kimono feels incredibly luxurious to the touch. The bottom half of the silk Kimono is decorated with Jacquard fan motifs of varying sizes and there are tiny jacquard springtime raindrops covering most of the material. The lining is plain white silk.
At the top under the collar is a Paulonia flower inside a circle which is the Kamon (family crest) of those with the surname of Toyotomi. The original clan leader was a famous samurai lord who played an important part in Japanese history and was both popular and highly controversial throughout his life - he is known as one of the three unifiers of Japan. His wife was Nene.
In immaculate condition generally however there are a couple of barely noticeable squareish marks on the outside of the lower part of the kimono's back.
This would make a stunning robe for the romantic, tied with a sash or hung in a a pretty bedroom.

The muted colours of the 'Garden scenery' vintage silk Kimono suggests the wearer favoured it towards the end of autumn when things were less bright than the glowing oranges and red maple leaves from earlier in the seasonal colour palate.
The patterns include various flowers, bamboo leaves and dusty swirls, evoking an image of leaves starting to flutter and float - this Kimono celebrates the best of transitioning seasons. Anyone who loves their plants and flowers would be happy wearing this textile which implies a walk through a considered garden.

The vintage silk 'Many Waves' Kimono features a dusky-pink, repeating wave pattern, against a pearlescent cream background with intermittent larger waves in grape, orange and olive green. From a distance the overall colour appears pale pink.
The lining has panels of cream, pale lemon and lilac silk.
Externally this kimono is immaculate except for the tiniest hole towards the hem at the back of the garment. The inside lining has a little age spotting down the back where it is not visible when worn or hung as wall art.

The cool blue-green tones of this vintage textured-silk Kimono are as refreshing as a 'Life Aquatic'. There are hints of yellow, black and white in the thread giving the appearance depth and movement. We can't help but see shimmering water just above swaying tendrils of underwater plantlife when we gaze upon this beauty. Lined in greyish blue and white silk.
Condition
Externally this Kimono is in very good condition however there are a few age spots at the back towards the hem. The largest is about 3cm wide and is located about 20cm above the hem - it's not overly obvious due to the colour of the kimono (ie we had to look hard for it) but if you wished to have the garment amended - shortening the kimono to wear as a thigh length jacket would eliminate the spot. The cream lining has significant age spotting but it cannot be seen when worn or displayed on the wall.
