This vibrant, vintage 'Red Siren' Kimono in textured silk feels as sensational as it looks. The weave's plaid pattern is made with fine black threads and the bold lining is in red and pink silk.

Externally this kimono is in immaculate condition - there are very minor age spots on inside lining. Superb.

Kimonos are generally made, for wearing traditionally tied with an Obi sash, on smaller framed, not too tall bodies - however if worn as an open jacket there is generally enough room in the sleeve area and in length to be worn by several sizes larger and taller than originally intended. However there is no guarantee it will sit perfectly on your body shape. Let's call it freestyle!

All vintage and antique kimono and haori were hand made. Therefore you may see some loose, temporary stitches around edges of sleeves, hems and collars on our kimonos. These stitches, called shitsuke ito, are kept in place to assist the valuable kimono in retaining its shape and alignment. In Japan the stitches are normally removed before wearing then restitched again after cleaning and before storage, for the same reasons as above. We like the look of authenticity they bring so feel free to retain them if you like, or remove them before wearing.

Kimono Hangers - Emonkake

This wide vintage Obi sash for Kimono features gold, red, black and white coloured silk brocade in a repetitive hexagonal 'turtoise' pattern with wishes of long life, luck and happiness. Hanabishi is the diamond flower shape.  The underside is plain black silk.

This type of Obi would traditionally have been worn at ceremonies and celebrations by noble folk and make an excellent special occasion gift - as a hanging art-piece,  decorative runner for a dining table, sideboard or foot of your bed. Wishing them the very best of luck, happiness and long life.

If you are really far more clever and crafty than we will ever be  - shorten the obi to turn into a wall hanging, or place mats and table runner or even cushion covers or mix with other obi to re-cover a fabric bed head - perhaps even sew into several clutch or shoulder bags - keep one for yourself and gift or sell the rest!

This glorious reddish-pink, textured-silk vintage Kimono has a fine plaid pattern with threads of pale silver, black and indigo running through it and is as fun and energetic as the festival (matsuri) it is named after. It is lined in gold and maroon silk.

Condition

While the outside of this kimono is immaculate - there is extensive age spotting covering the gold part of the lining - meaning that it is best worn tied with a sash or hung on the wall as textile art. It might be worth investigating removing or replacing the lining if you wish to wear it as an open jacket.
