The gorgeous 'Red Flowers' vintage silk haori from Kyoto features regal red Chrysanthemums against a black background, on both the front and back. Some of the flowers feature hand stitched embroidery over the central disks which add texture and depth to the pattern.
The lining on this beauty is in pale gold silk with subtle floral motifs and the ties are braided silk in the same colour.
This elegant piece would look as magical tied closed over a dress as it would worn as an open jacket - teamed with jeans and a t'shirt or trousers and a blouse. Aka Hana also makes a striking talking piece when hung on the wall as textile art.
Pristine condition.
Note - Please Read before purchase:
Kimono and Haori are generally made, for wearing on smaller framed, not too tall bodies - however if worn as an open jacket there is generally enough room in the sleeve area and in length to be worn by several sizes larger and taller than originally intended. However there is no guarantee it will sit perfectly on your body shape. Let's call it freestyle!
As we take every measure to ensure you are advised of the correct sizing prior to purchase - we ask you to please be aware that we don't refund for garments chosen in error. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any queries regarding dimensions before purchase.
All vintage and antique kimono and haori were hand made. Therefore you may see some loose, temporary stitches around edges of sleeves, hems and collars on our kimonos. These stitches, called shitsuke ito, are kept in place to assist the valuable kimono in retaining its shape and alignment. In Japan the stitches are normally removed before wearing then restitched again after cleaning and before storage, for the same reasons as above. We like the look of authenticity they bring so feel free to retain them if you like, or remove them before wearing.

This vibrant, vintage 'Red Siren' Kimono in textured silk feels as sensational as it looks. The weave's plaid pattern is made with fine black threads and the bold lining is in red and pink silk.
While this traffic stopping number will inevitably attract attention - the bonus element is that red is energising and deflects negativity according to the Japanese - the very best kind of party attire! A true conversation starter!
Of course the 100% silk Aka Keisei would look pretty amazing hung as wall art too.
Externally this kimono is in immaculate condition - there are very minor age spots on inside lining. Superb.

We imagine the sun goddess Amaterasu would have looked perfect in this vintage silk Kimono. So very bright, happy and bold. Glowing deep vermilion this sacred colour deflects negative energy. Hints of gold , black and white suggest luxury, elegance and purity.
Almost perfect condition - just a couple of tiny age spots on the inside lining. Superb.

We called this cup 'Earthed' as that's exactly how it feels to hold this handsome ceramic. The contemporary cup based on the Raku style has been fired with an iron glaze...

We named this 100% silk vintage Kimono 'Furutta', meaning different or eccentric, for its truly unusual design. We've never seen another one quite like this.
However the 60's introduced a new trend in Kimono style and colours and this is a great example.
Kimono makers have always had a knack for putting together seemingly disconnected colours and patterns and making them work. The colouring of this almost copper brown background with white, black, ochre and pale khaki looks as though there could have been an African influence - the lining colour is a duo of peach and lemon gelato.
Wear as a long jacket, robe or as intended - wrapped with an Obi or or other traditional sash.
Excellent condition - only very slight age marks on inner lining and watermark on inner sleeve.

This elegant, silk kimono reminds us of the Japanese winter sky (fuyuzora) on a silvery hued day as the snow is about to fall. Small birds are seen here scurrying about in the breeze drawn to glowing red lantern light. At least that's our interpretation and we're sticking to it.
Lined with a warming blood-red and snowy white silk - this vintage piece would make a splendid lightweight winter coat but would look equally as elegant displayed on the wall.
Excellent condition with a few minuscule age spots on inner lining.

Feathery silver trees and temples cover this vintage, black silk Kimono. We can't help but imagine this is the view from a mountainside retreat we regularly visit - high in Kyoto looking over the valley to a remote zen temple on a steep slope accessible only by foot - when you arrive it is completely magical - stay as long as you like and just take it in. If you are the owner of this Kimono you can wrap yourself in this idea - a special kind of personal meditation!
This piece has been immaculately preserved and would make a stunning long evening jacket - if not worn as traditionally intended with an obi. The inside is lined with cream silk.
The look and feel is so ethereal and stunning it would be just as perfect hanging as textile art in your home.
Excellent condition with just a couple of tiny age spots on inner lining and some watermarking inside lapel lining.

This black, vintage silk Haori shows off large 'silver flower' motifs - we believe the subject is the frilled petal Iris which blooms in late spring in Japan when the days are warm and the skies are clear.
Bold spheres cover the cream silk lining. The short tie on the front lapels is a braid of cream and pale blue silk hinting at the sun and the sky. The small hand stitched family crest on the background is in gold thread. Gorgeous.
Perhaps wear as an open jacket over a t-shirt with jeans or a black top and flowing wide leg pants or instantly glam up a simple black dress by tying at the front or leaving open.
Great condition - slight age discolouration on lining .

This striking, textured silk Haori from Kyoto features black and white shibori (tie dye) with red highlights and is lined with light pearlescent material and a faint purple daimond pattern.
Hamura means leafy foliage - to us the design suggests peeking through leaves at a festival of glowing lanterns or fireworks. It could of course represent the white and pink mochi balls found attached to branches as part of the new year celebration. Whatever way you frame it this haori says 'party!'. How will you be celebrating in your new haori?
Perhaps wear as an open jacket over a t-shirt with jeans or a black top and flowing wide leg pants or instantly glam up a simple black dress by tying at the front or leaving open.
While the haori is silk the lining is acrylic

This wide vintage Obi sash for Kimono features gold, red, black and white coloured silk brocade in a repetitive hexagonal 'turtoise' pattern with wishes of long life, luck and happiness. Hanabishi is the diamond flower shape. The underside is plain black silk.
This type of Obi would traditionally have been worn at ceremonies and celebrations by noble folk and make an excellent special occasion gift - as a hanging art-piece, decorative runner for a dining table, sideboard or foot of your bed. Wishing them the very best of luck, happiness and long life.
If you are really far more clever and crafty than we will ever be - shorten the obi to turn into a wall hanging, or place mats and table runner or even cushion covers or mix with other obi to re-cover a fabric bed head - perhaps even sew into several clutch or shoulder bags - keep one for yourself and gift or sell the rest!
In perfect condition on both the front, embroidered side and the black silk backing.

'The language of flowers' says it all... or does it. In this case there are a couple of secrets. Although this flowing black crepe-silk, vintage kimono has such large, intricate flowers screen-printed around the base that you can barely take your eyes off them there are hidden messages worth seeking out.
A feature area of gold silk embroidery, on the front left hand side panel (see image 2) adds life and movement to the art work colours, in muted tones of red, green, grey and gold, and the lining is in pale gold silk. But the most delightful part of this story is the lining of the inner lapels - a completely different, slightly more relaxed and exotic floral display for your eyes only - or those you choose to share it with. It is quite exquisite. See the last 2 images to note the change in style.
There are 3 Kamon or family crests across the back, on the top of each sleeve and just under the collar.
Condition
It is in very good condition generally but there are tiny age speckles visible in the lighter coloured parts of the external fabric (images 3 & 4) in the patterning as you can see in the detail images - although hardly noticeable unless you are up very close to the hem of the kimono. There's also a little age spotting and watermarking on the inner lining which is not visible when worn or displayed as art.
Given its age and ornate design, plus the raised gold and silver embroidery in one section this piece would look stunning displayed as a wall hanging.

The occasional silver and gold metallic patterning on this black silk vintage haori evokes a sense of 'Fleeting' flowers, gently tumbling away on the breeze reminding us of the Buddhist concept of impermanence and the importance of appreciating the things that come and go. Not holding on. We like the message that accompanies this haori - whether it was intended or not... Ok, so we are dreamers.
The black background has fine ripples over its entirety and the lining is pale gold silk patterned with regal Chrysanthemums. The tassel tie at the front is in silver and pale pink. If not used to tie the coat shut they sit hidden behind the lapels.
Excellent condition.

Named for the leopard skin like pattern in it's weaving, this funky, vintage black and white 60's print with bright orange lining is nothing if not striking. We love the contrast and boldness of the slightly hidden colour in the sleeves and lower half of the lining.
Wear as a long, flowing open jacket, robe/dressing gown or as intended - wrapped with an Obi or traditional sash.
This decorative Kimono would also look fantastic hung on a white wall.
Note that there are a few noticeable areas of yellow discolouration from age on the inner collar , lapel (as per 4th image) and lining but most of it could not be seen when worn or displayed.
Note - Please Read before purchase:
Kimonos are generally made, for wearing traditionally tied with an Obi sash, on smaller framed, not too tall bodies - however if worn as an open jacket there is generally enough room in the sleeve area and in length to be worn by several sizes larger and taller than originally intended.

Ideally you should clean your silk kimono as little as possible to keep it in top condition. Please try to avoid using lotions or oily perfumes when you wear it. Also make sure your hands are clean as sticky or greasy fingers and Kimono don't play well together!
Air your kimono after wearing by hanging on a kimono hanger or extra wide coat-hanger.

This stunning, wide vintage Obi sash for Kimono features heavily woven brocade over one side and is a piece to cherish. The underside is plain black silk.
This type of Obi (fukuro obi) would traditionally been worn at formal ceremonies and celebrations and in this case, possibly in wedding attire.
Decorated with a repetitive, geometric 'Tortoise' pattern enclosing regal chrysanthemum, taiko drums, symbols of long life such as the crane (the origami paper crane often plays a part in weddings), pine tree (strength), the Buddhist wheel of fortune plus other lucky symbols and symbolically rich flowers make this an excellent special occasion gift - as a hanging art-piece, decorative runner for a dining table, sideboard or foot of the bed. Wishing the receiver the very best of luck, happiness and long life.
If you are really far more clever and crafty than we will ever be - shorten the obi to make a various length table runners or wall hangings, cushion covers or perhaps even sew into several clutch or shoulder bags - keep one for yourself and gift or sell the rest!
A small section towards one end of this Obi, for ease of wearing, has been left un-patterned - ie it's black on both sides and measures approximately 108cm.
Condition
Excellent - the front side is absolutely sensational in both look and feel - however there are just a couple of small spots where a couple of the embroidery threads have pulled slightly. The black silk backing is in very good condition with just minor marks occasionally which may come off with spot cleaning - see care instructions.
Note - Please Read before purchase:
As we take every measure to ensure you are advised of the correct sizing and condition prior to purchase - we ask you to please be aware that we don't refund for Obi chosen in error. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any queries before purchase.

The 'black crane' vintage Haori in black and red silk is majestic as all get out! In Japanese culture the crane is a symbol of luck and long life. The colour red is believed to have power and deflect negative energy. Black represents strength and elegance. There are 3 small white family crests on the back - one on each shoulder and one just beneath the collar.
At some point in Kimono fashion history it became popular to show just a hint of bright colour inside a relatively plain garment as it allowed the wearer to reveal just a little of their personality without being too obvious. Traditionally it is not culturally acceptable to 'stand out' in Japan - although that is changing slowly. There is a Japanese saying that goes 'the nail that sticks up gets hammered down' - and for us, well.. that's just a red flag to a bull! A beautiful red silk flag of course....
This Haori is perfect for evening wear but it also looks completely stunning hung on a wall.
Excellent condition with just a couple of stitches missing on inner lining of sleeve.

The vintage 'Midnight Ocean' Kimono in deep indigo-blue, textured silk is rippled with fine black lines, crossing over each, like a map of sea journeys. The lines grow thicker and more gnarled in parts before transitioning back into calmer waters. It's hard not to fall in love with this stylish piece which runs deep with interpretation.
Partially lined in white, with a silky strip of grey satin down the centre lining.
In excellent condition except for some age spotting on the lining and a larger, but not obvious, age spot on the inside of the kimono around knee height.
This versatile kimono would look fantastic as an extra winter layer over sleek black - or even jeans and a jumper. Add a splash of colour with a bright scarf or brooch or give your look even more texture with natural, earthy tones or paler blues or greys.
The irregularity of the pattern in this piece makes it highly suitable for displaying on the wall as textile art.

'Longevity' is represented by the hexagons on the pearly cream silk lining of this black vintage silk Haori. Hexagons are the symbol for tortoise who live until a fine age. The Jacquard flowers and leaves covering the entire jacket are so subtle they are almost a secret. Share it by standing in the light. A white family crest sits under the collar.
Generally in excellent condition but the lining has some significant age spotting - particularly inside the sleeves - however when it is being worn someone would have to look very hard to find them!

This vintage, black silk 'Movement of Clouds' Haori is covered in a captivating swirling jacquard cloud designs incorporating floral and diamond motifs. The Japanese believe the deities reside in the clouds which would lend a certain spiritual essence to this garment - it is at the very least rather ethereal looking!
The lining is cream silk with an attractive, somewhat geometrical floral pattern with a fine gold line through parts - likely stylised wisteria as the lilac coloured flower popularly symbolises the purple cloud which deities might descend to earth upon... So we're not exactly sure of the logistics on that one - but what we do know is that this haori is both stylish and elegant. And if it swathes you in supernatural powers of attraction there's no need to thank us.
The woven ties are made of cream silk and silver thread - note that they tuck away nicely when worn as an open jacket. There is a small family crest on the back beneath the collar - hand-stitched in silver silk thread.
Immaculate condition.
