Each of these Modanburuusu (modern blues) cups in smooth, white Aritayaki porcelain of Kyushu, has been hand-painted with contrasting patterns in shades of blue that float upon the fine white porcelain surface. From fine vertical to bold horizontal lines, patchwork 'tatami' patterns and running lines of loops reminiscent of fields, each cup is a design statement of its own.
The fine lipped edges have been glazed in a flatter rusty mud colour adding interest to the usual Japan blue and white. These are quite striking in the flesh and while they look great on their own - they look extra fabulous in the set. Be quick if you want them all !!
Beautiful to drink tea, coffee, sake or sake from, each is a chic example of contemporary Japanese design. They can also be used as petit dessert cups! Matcha pudding, white chocolate and red bean mousse, yuzu bavarois anyone?
