This sake cup bears the beauty of a white milk-drop glaze contrasting against the pale grey exterior of the piece. This distinctive design is a trademark of such renowned Japanese ceramic styles including the revered hagiyaki.
The light colour of the white slip glazing imparts a sense of coolness, even when drinking hot sake from the vessel. Its rounded, fluted bowl feels great to hold and the curving lip most pleasant to sip from.
At meals where sake is poured there is the endearing Japanese custom of first choosing the sake cup that 'speaks' to you the most. We'd certainly be tempted by this one... But if you actually hear voices, it might be time to put down the sake bottle.
