'Karashi' Cup

This handsome, over-sized 'mustard' coloured tea cup was handmade by an Okinawan ceramic artist.

More robust and bold in colour and patterning than many Japanese ceramics it is typical of the Okinawan style.

Large honey brushstrokes feature over the background. Sip a frosty beer from this beauty and imagine you are in the tropical, southern-Japanese Island. Or warm up a cold night as you cradle your hot tea...

Of course this would look just as striking filled with bread or veggie sticks on the table or used as a vessel for teaspoons, pens or chopsticks!

Purchased at a small ceramics gallery in Kyoto.
