We called this cup 'Earthed' as that's exactly how it feels to hold this handsome ceramic. The contemporary cup based on the Raku style has been fired with an iron glaze which results in a shimmery bronzed effect in certain lights and in other lights the maroonish brown and black tones are highlighted. It is quite exquisite to look at but the texture and shape make this an artwork to hold.
Purchased from an exhibition in a Kyoto gallery but we understand this cup was made by a respected potter in neighbouring Shiga prefecture.
Life's too short not to treat yourself with a beautiful cup to drink from daily. Perfect hot beverages and for sake, beer or wine. You can also use this as a small dish either on the dinner table or on your dresser or simply on display to be admired.
