This gorgeous vintage yukata or summer kimono is made of lightweight quality cotton and has been very well cared for. We've named this little number 'Rain chain' for the links from top to toe and the summer rain.
Rainchains are a decorative way to channel rain from Japanese rooftops and make our downpipes look rather bland. Unusually this yukata features both indigo and green mixed with white in the patterning. Most yukata worn are simply blue and white in a wide variety of patterns. We've not come across this particular pattern before.
Yukata make great warm weather bath robes or dressing gowns.
In ryokan (traditional inn) and onsen (hot spring) areas in Japan it is common to see people wearing yukata in the streets.
Condition - Excellent apart from slight age discolouration on the neckline
Note - Please Read before purchase:
Vintage Yukata are generally made, for wearing traditionally tied with a sash, on smaller framed, not too tall bodies. Newer items come in larger sizes.
As we take every measure to ensure you are advised of the correct sizing prior to purchase - we ask you to please be aware that we don't refund for garments chosen in error. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any queries regarding dimensions before purchase.

This vintage 'Blue windows' Yukata or lightweight summer kimono made from quality cotton shows off a wonderfully intricate geometric pattern which, on close inspection, presents as tiny windows. Perhaps when open they allow a cool breeze in on a hot summer's day.... ok , so we're clutching at straws - it may well be just a pattern with no meaning at all but we can't help but revel in the romance of vintage .
In excellent condition apart from one line in the pattern at the back on the garment which we believe was an issue with the original screen-printing - it is simply not quite as white as the rest of the fabric.

This handsome 'little boxes' Yukata (summer kimono) in dark indigo and white vintage cotton is specifically light weight due to Kyoto's very hot and humid summers - making it an excellent dressing gown or bathrobe in the warmer months.
Taking into account its age, this piece is in very good condition apart from a few small spots of rust coloured stainage on the back of the yukata at the left hand side seam. It's barely noticeable and we think it gives character through its history - let's call it wabi sabi...
Adding to the allure is the the name of the previous owner, hand-stitched in red inside the collar in Japanese characters.
We are so drawn to this geometric pattern, rarely seen in modern day yukata, that if we had a spare wall we know where this baby would end up.
